January Jewelry
Class for Adults
Learn the fine art of jewelry-making
from experienced Sawdust artist-jewelers in a relaxing, creative setting
at the Sawdust Art Festival.

$150 per student for
one-day session. Includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee.

All necessary
tools will be provided. Each student will receive a packet with
metal; six (6) saw blades and other necessities for their own
use.
*Please bring to
class a drawing tablet, pencil, eraser, ruler and unbridled enthusiasm
to create. Also bring a sack lunch. |
| Description: |
An introductory
class in the design technique of making hand fabricated jewelry
from metal sheet.
Students will learn
about the American Arts and Crafts Movement of which beauty of
nature and simplicity of design were the foremost values.
Students will explore
the technique used in metal fabrication. Using examples, students
will design and hand make one piece of Jewelry from start to finish,
orchestrating artistic
techniques along the
way. Students will gain knowledge of the tools and methods used
to fabricate metal jewelry.
A final objective in
this course will be to instill in students an appreciation of
and introduction to the design and creation of handmade fabricated
jewelry, along with the sense of accomplishment by taking home
handmade jewelry of their own creation. |
| Instructor: |
Marla Burns
is a Laguna Beach gold and silversmith with 41 years of experience.
She is a founding member of the Sawdust Art Festival, having exhibited
and demonstrated her metalsmithing in the show for 37 years. In
the 1960’s Marla studied metalsmithing at the side of master
teacher Clarla Ilgner. |
